The story surrounding the bribery trial, conviction, sentencing and imprisonment of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman of Alabama is one which hasn’t received much attention from this writer, but after only minimal research the question “why hasn’t Obama pardoned him?” quickly came to mind. It’s a question right up there with why hasn’t Obama released the “28 Pages”?

This post has a 3-minute segment of a “60 Minutes” episode aired in early 2008 of Republican Attorney General Grant Woods of Arizona, a 10-minute video trailer of a documentary about Don Siegelman’s case “Killing Atticus Finch”, and a link for more information to the website free-don.org.

After television media had all called the governor’s race of 2007-8 for Siegelman on election night, it was past midnight when the numbers in one Alabama county mysteriously transformed from 6,000 Siegelman votes to votes for his GOP opponent, and Siegelman went from governor-elect and a second term to runner-up. It was after Siegelman’s call for a recount, and the GOP Attorney General of Alabama’s threat to prosecute anyone attempting to carry out a recount, that it became learned in the county where the 6,000 votes jumped to the GOP candidate no other votes for contested down-ticket offices jumped – only votes for governor.

Over 100 former Republican and Democrat attorneys general have called for Don Siegelman’s pardon and release from federal prison. Why Obama has yet to issue a pardon after Mr. Siegelman has spent so many years in prison is a mystery, especially with all the obvious “red flag” circumstances which placed him there.

In a recent interview with Thom Hartmann, Don Siegelman mentioned Obama’s Solicitor General told the U.S. Supreme Court that Americans “…don’t have the constitutional right to not become framed for crimes”.  Many believe head legal counsel for George W. Bush – Karl Rove – was the person behind the successful effort to convict Siegelman for what one former federal judge perceived as a campaign contribution which didn’t benefit or enrich Siegelman by one dime.

Without digging into or researching any further into Don Siegelman’s story, at the very least Mr. Hartmann has accurately described it as “amazing”. The story also provides reinforcement of the idea that “truth is stranger than fiction”.

Swiss Banks’ Terror Finance Scandal: July 4 Topic Of The Day.

Alphabet Men and women loyal to the truth must at times wonder if lies, scandal, corruption, accumulation of wealth and power-seeking are the world’s perennial, unchanging, indestructible condition. Whistleblower Scott Bennett’s astounding story is a case in point. Mr. Bennett has appeared on many independent media TV/radio programs in the past year, and his interviews have been heard by tens of thousands of people. Yet, although his description of events sounds entirely plausible and compelling, pointing to corruption at the highest levels of political, military and intelligence officialdom in the United States government – plus at least one of the world’s most powerful banks, Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) – he has not been called to testify before the U.S. Congress. In open session.

In basic summary, Scott Bennett was a counter-terrorism financing analyst working for Booz, Allen, Hamilton, the same corporation Edward Snowden worked for. Mr. Bennett came to meet Union Bank of Switzerland whistleblower Brad Birkenfeld while both were in the same Pennsylvania prison, where Bennett learned of UBS accounts, controlled by the monarchies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman etc., being used for financing terrorist groups – including ISIS. Mr. Bennett produced a detailed report then sent it up the military and intelligence community chain of command, as well as more than 150 United States Senators and Congressmen/women. Since then – May 2012 – there has been no Congressional investigation.

Recently, Mr. Bennett has called the offices of many U.S. Senators leaving detailed, lengthy accounts with staff  demanding action – an investigation where he and other whistleblowers testify in front of responsible committees and the American people. He has recorded those phone conversations and videotaped them, then posted the videos to YouTube at his channel: ArmyPsyOp Scott.

While following up on Scott Bennett’s efforts to expose this scandal, his latest video upload (June 26) at YouTube is of an interview by Susan Lindauer, whose treatment as a whistleblower parallels Scott Bennett’s, and their discussion lasts 1-hour and 42-minutes. With apology to men and women who follow this blog and many other blogs for such a long video, please record “Interview with Susan Lindauer June 2015” for entry into YouTube’s search engine to view and listen later if time constraints apply. The information presented in Ms. Lindauer’s interview of Scott Bennett is important, because the United States Congress has not taken steps to investigate the matter. The purpose behind posting the lengthy interview is to disseminate the information so that more Americans become aware, contact their elected representatives, and Congress starts an investigation.

The interview provides a more thorough understanding of what is at stake with regard to Scott Bennett’s knowledge about these events, and why the Congress clearly must investigate – on the level of Watergate, Iran-Contra, and Church Committee investigations of recent history.

Here is an excerpt from Mr. Bennett’s interview:

“We’re not going to Congress asking them politely if they have time on their schedule and they can introduce our subject between the ‘green tree frog’ and the ‘little old lady’s cat that got run over’ on their busy agenda of things to tackle. We’re asking them, if not telling them, ‘Look, member of Congress, men and women in uniform are dying because they’re getting blown up and hurt and maimed, and they’re coming back to traumatized families, and they’re going into the VA full of drugs and sleeping pills and all sorts of badness. This is happening to them because terrorist operations are being financed by Swiss banks – and you’re not doing anything about it’ “.

“We want you to have the whistleblowers and this issue brought forth front and center, because the people who’ve been involved with this have been covering it up. That includes Roger Zakheim, Dov Zakheim, Lanny Breuer, Eric Holder, Covington & Burling, Booz-Allen-Hamilton, Brad Birkenfeld, Union Bank of Switzerland, Hillary Clinton… The list of people is there; everybody needs to be examined. So, if they (concerned citizens) contact the Whistleblowing Committee – phone # 202-224-4751 – and send hundreds of emails to whistleblower@ronjohnson.senate.gov, that’s how they (you and everyone you know) can play a part. That’s how they can protect their future sons and daughters and stop a war that’s gone way out of control, and get in and fix the government apparatus that’s corrupt, that totally needs to be examined”.

“We called Rand Paul again, and he’s a contender for the presidency. Well, let’s let him put his money where his mouth is – and I applaud him for what he’s done; I applaud him for the good he’s done. I stand with anybody that stands for our constitution and freedom, and is against any police state or government tyranny of the bureaucrats’ intelligence community lording over the regular population. Rand Paul seems to be about that. So let’s give him this issue and let him be the centerpiece. He’s on the committee; he’s on the majority side of this committee… so, Rand Paul’s on the Whistleblowing Committee so let’s let him lead this and demand that Susan Lindauer, Scott Bennett, John Kiriakou and others come forward and tell their story, and see where it leads”.

“We’re not telling it for our own sake. We’re telling it for the American people because we know it can only get worse if it’s not stopped and corrected”.

“When you know of intelligence you report it. You report it loudly, you report it fearlessly, you get into people’s faces, you put your finger in their chest and say ‘Hey, wake up! There’s an issue here you need to pay attention to, because there are kids getting blown up. Do I got your attention, Congressman? Senator? Here it is’. Oh, you’re getting paid by this bank? You’ve got a Swiss bank? You’ve got a Union Bank of Switzerland account? You’ve got an HSBC account? Well, guess what? You’re out of this room. You’re off this table. I want men who don’t have corrupt bank accounts and don’t have financial connections to those parties, and you’ve sworn an oath to the constitution – you damn well better take this front and center and make it your issue”.

“I’ve had people who were on the phone who were saying ‘Well, I’ve got to run to another meeting’, and I say ‘No, you don’t have to run to another meeting. This is the only meeting you need to be in, because this is the only meeting that can stop kids from getting killed! Do I have your attention?’ And I go on with the briefing. So it takes about an hour to get it all out, but I want it out and I record it so it is on the record as a legal document that your office, Senator, was advised. What did you do with it? And that’s where those guys are going to stand up and be leaders, faithful to the constitution, or they are not. And if they are not, then we have the choice to live in a corrupt tyranny or we can clean them out by replacing them – either through impeachment or recall or just not voting for them again and new people taking their jobs”.

“But this is the chance, this is the D-Day invasion of the beach. We need to draw attention to this, and bang these drums as loudly as possible, and get into the face of John McCain, of Bob Portman, of Claire McCaskill, of John Tester, of Heidi Heitkamp, of Tammy Baldwin, of James Langford, of Rand Paul, of Michael Enzi, of Kelly Ayotte, of Corey Booker, of Gary Peters, and Ben Sasse, and Jodi Ernst. Jodi Ernst, who’s an Army officer, she should be furious about this. We’ll see where she stands. But all of these people… If you call yourselves Senators on the Government Affairs and Oversight Committee and you’ve got a whistleblowing email, and a whistleblowing dimension to you, then you damn well better have Susan Lindauer, Scott Bennett, John Kiriakou and a few other whistleblowers appear at your next session”.

“…those are the guys who’ve been persecuted; they had a number of problems. I feel for them; I’ve been there. But what we’ve been through Susan is even worse because we’ve been bloodied. And what they’ve bloodied us with they can do to any American citizen – any other American citizen can go through what you did… kick down your door”.

“This whole Covington & Burling thing is the pustule that will soon burst, out of which will come all sorts of smelly poison, and you see that Eric Holder and Lanny Breuer, the top law enforcement officials, worked at Covington & Burling, this big law firm in D.C. UBS whistleblower Brad Birkenfeld comes forth and says ‘Here’s all the bank account information; here’s all the cellphones; here’s the hotels; here’s the emails; here’s everything you need to track’. You know what their response to him was, Susan? ‘We can’t track that. You watch too much TV’. As if to say ‘we don’t have the technological capability’… And I wrote that in my report. That is a flat-out lie”.

“Of course we have the technical capability to track his bank accounts. Of course we can track that. Anyone who says the opposite is hiding something. That’s what they said to him, and then they stab him in the back when he wouldn’t stop. He goes to the IRS, he goes to the SEC, he finally gets into the Senate – and maybe the Senate was told ‘get this guy inside so we can shut him up’ – and he goes into the Senate and testifies to Carl Levin, and Senator Barack Obama was on that committee, and a variety of other colorful characters on the Senate Permanent Committee on Investigations. He gives them all of this information and then they prosecute him with it, send him to prison, and Oh! … And then he meets me”.

Ms. Lindauer seemed to suggest at the interview’s end that members of the military took the actions which led to Brad Birkenfeld and Scott Bennett being sent to the same prison. She seemed to imply that their meeting in prison had become arranged in order to get the scandal out. There are so many more details involved which will need investigating, but nothing such as that will occur until an investigation actually begins. If you have been in the military, take the action you think necessary. If you have family, friends or acquaintances who’ve served in the military, know an elected representative or public safety official, know men or women in the media, please share this information with them all.

Dick Cheney, 9/11, Extreme Democracy and Peaceful Revolution.

by Jerry Alatalo

mountain3Alphabet Robert David Steele wants Americans to take action and save the country. During Mr. Steele’s interview by Sean Stone on “Buzzsaw” recently, he asserted that the unemployment rate in the United States is no less than 23%, probably more like 30%, and that means the US economy is in “desperate shape”. Given Robert David Steele has reviewed more non-fiction books on Amazon than anyone on Earth his accumulated knowledge is significant, and the far-ranging interview shows it. The main reason for sharing the talk between Mr. Steele and Mr. Stone, besides the astonishing truth revealed, is that it touches on solutions to persistent major problems.

He believes that conditions in America align with historical moments when revolutionary change becomes unavoidable, including great concentration of wealth, isolation of those on the receiving end of that increasing wealth inequality, a growing distrust of the press and politicians, and so on. Because of current societal conditions, Mr. Steele sees that American “democracy is comatose”. He believes – in contrast to activist Chris Hedges, who advocates “terrifying the elites” – that confrontation isn’t the wisest route to needed change, but that non-violent revolution is both urgent and possible.

Mr. Steele’s perspective is that the first and most essential goal is passage of “The Electoral Reform Act of 2015”. He will support Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for president on one condition: that Bernie Sanders introduces legislation for “The Electoral Reform Act of 2015” on the floor of the Senate before the summer recess. The legislation would reform elections by:

allowing ballot access to all parties’ candidates

eliminating private campaign contributions and publicly financing elections

giving free media time to all candidates

allowing every candidate to enter debates

eliminating electronic voting through paper ballots/hand counts

establishing instant run-off, where voters choose their first, second and third preferred candidates

requiring candidates to post legislation they would pursue if elected online, in advance without secret provisions

overcoming unconstitutional opposition/blockage by Congress of an Article V Constitutional Convention, as requirements of 34 states calling for one have already been met

On the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Steele sees the secretive trade deal as a coup d’état, a betrayal of public trust, and goes so far as saying President Barack Obama should be impeached for offering it. He views the current political climate as “millions of people trapped in a bad system, screwing 99% of the public 99% of the time”.

Turning to foreign policy issues, Steele said “(The) United States government is best pals with 42 of the 44 dictators on the planet. We sponsor dictators; we sponsor obscene criminal activities against the foreign publics that have every right to think of us as the shining light for democracy – in fact we’re not. Our government is in constant betrayal of the public trust and in constant betrayal of the constitution and in constant betrayal of the principles which this country was founded upon”.

“It’s an honor to be an average American; it’s not an honor to be a corrupt politician selling the country out”.

Steele sees the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy as the point where America started its moral decline, as Kennedy was endeavoring to cut back on banks, end nuclear smuggling to Israel, control organized crime, wanted to fire long-time FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, along with other measures which upset the plans of many. Steele criticizes the FBI for “not doing their job to find ideological, financial and religious traitors in the United States government” and that is “the 1st thing I’d change if I had anything to say about the future of the United States”.

His perception of the world’s “power pyramid” is 12 families at the top, then under those the next, slightly less-wealthy 300 families, then the interlocking boards of directors of banks and corporations, then the “servant” class of kings, queens, presidents and prime ministers. along with their political appointees – all who “feed at the trough”.  He sees most men and women who enter political office as good people having good intentions who find out once “inside” that they’ll be killed if they don’t do what the real power-holders want. Mr. Steele notes that he’d heard that former President Jimmy Carter “cried his heart out” when he “got the conversation in the White House”.

His main message is that no relevant, issues of real concern will become seriously addressed until the American people get rid of what he calls the two-party tyranny. Passage of The Electoral Reform Act of 2015 in the next 90 days is critical, and, once passed, a subsequent “coalition government would not be bound to two-party tyranny”.

“If we have an honest government, that does two things: 1) it restores the concept of making decisions on the basis of ethical, evidence-based decision support, and 2) it restores the voice of the public – not just on election day, but every single day. And if you have these two things, I’ll tell you what, I can put Monsanto out of business overnight. Just by educating the public. That’s what’s not happening now. The education of the public is what follows from an honest government”.

After Sean Stone asked Steele about false flag terrorism, he replied “We’re not the policeman of the world, we’re the terrorists of the world. Martin Luther King was not killed for leading black people out of slavery, he was killed because he said the United States was the world’s greatest purveyor of violence. MLK was killed by an Army sniper on detail to the FBI”. According to Mr. Steele, JFK was assassinated by a cabal that included elements of the CIA, elements of the New York banks, elements of Texas money, Cuban crime families, and Israel.

9/11?…

“I believe 9/11 was funded by Saudi Arabia and was intended to be executed by a variety of terrorists, funded by Saudi Arabia with Saudi Arabian passports, but they were from many different countries. I believe that 13 different countries are on record as having warned the United States months in advance; I believe that Dick Cheney scheduled a counter-terrorism exercise 3 months in advance of 9/11 so that he could control the day. The FEMA disaster response tent was completely set up on the piers of New York on the 10th of September, the night before 9/11”.

“I believe that all three of the World Trade Center buildings were brought down by controlled demolition. I’m pretty certain the Pentagon was hit by a missile that we fired ourselves. And last but not least, the one thing that I’m absolutely positive about is we need a new 9/11 investigation that’s honest. And I would like to see in my lifetime Dick Cheney face a truth and reconciliation commission and not be allowed out until he tells the truth”.

“I think that Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States all agreed that 9/11 was needed and that murdering 3,000 mostly US civilians was a small price to pay. I think Dick Cheney personally authorized and oversaw the murder of 3,000 people in order to get his excuse for invading Iraq. We’ve created a swath of destruction all the way down from Afghanistan through the Middle East and North Africa, all the way down to Yemen and Somalia and Niger and Nigeria – both of which have oil. What has been done in the name of the public at public expense in my view justifies multiple people being arraigned before an international tribunal for war crimes”.

After pointing out that political corruption may be even more destructive on the state and local levels than the federal level, Robert David Steele reiterates his main goal: “What really matters to me is the whole idea of restoring transparency and integrity to how we govern ourselves. I believe that our citizens have become abject sheep; they’re delusional when they think that one man can change anything. These are the same people that fell for Barack Obama and they’ve learned nothing”.

“If Bernie (Sanders) does that (introduces The Electoral Reform Act of 2015 in the next 90 days), he has my vote. If Bernie does not do that, he’s an inauthentic fraud. This is real simple – time to cut to the chase. If you implement electoral reform, this means among other things that you cannot run in the general election unless you first appoint a coalition cabinet and there are cabinet level debates – for example, defense and state and homeland security – which I would abolish. And you produce a balanced budget that states very clearly what your priorities will be for spending the tax dollar if elected, and you’re held to that”.

“And, last but not least, I would recommend to any president that I was supporting an automated financial transaction tax imposing a fractional tax, like .00006%, on every transaction – including currency and stock transactions that are now not taxed. And the beauty of the tax is that it prevents elective wars because the tax rate is set by the public, not the government. You wanna’ go to war? You gotta’ get the public to agree to raise the tax rate to pay for it”.

“We don’t have representation. Look, let me tell you where Congress went wrong. Kennedy was the death of the executive. Congress was killed by Newt Gingrich. Newt Gingrich set out to destroy Speaker Jim Wright, and then Newt Gingrich turned Congress into a partisan establishment in which every member is required to vote the party line, and this was the beginning of the two-party tyranny selling voting blocs to the highest bidder. There are 46 billionaires that own the two-party tyranny and, truth be told, the two parties are much closer together at the top in relation to doing the bidding of the billionaires than they are opposed to each other”.

Robert David Steele’s message to Americans is that:

“They have essentially ninety days from today in which to decide whether they want to take back the power – legally, ethically and non-violently”.

“It’s great to be an average American. I love this country, and I want to see this country save itself”.

Thousands Suffer After Africa Land Grabs.

by Jerry Alatalo

ocean44Alphabet Executive Director of the Oakland Institute Anuradha Mittal and her team have worked for years on land, food and environment issues in regions around the Earth. Oakland Institute recently joined the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in exposing World Bank actions involving land grabs/acquisitions by foreign investors in Ethiopia which have resulted in tens of thousands of small farmers becoming forcibly evicted from their land.

Ms. Mittal describes the situation with regard to land grabs in Ethiopia as “dire”, with evicted farmers and their families facing persecution, intimidation, and arrest if refusing to leave the land which has sustained them for generations or by protesting. While many around the world are under the impression that colonialism in Africa is long-over and a thing of the past, what the Oakland Institute has discovered is a type of “re-colonization” of the African continent has occurred in recent years through land grabs/giveaways to investors looking to extract natural resources.

The Oakland Institute has become an organization that people in African nations and other regions on Earth go to when such deceptive transactions reach the point where bulldozers begin leveling homes of people who’ve farmed and worked the land to make a living for, as mentioned, generations. Despite a common absence of government transparency making it difficult to produce financial and land area statistics, Ms. Mittal was able to share that in the year 2011 – globally, 56 million hectares (a hectare is the size of a football field), roughly the size of France, became transferred from small-scale subsistence farmers/land owners to international investors.

In the last decade, the amount of land transferred to corporate and individual investors globally was 200 million hectares, of which 70% was on the African continent.  Whether investors were looking for profits from large agribusiness operations, mining, or other types of business opportunities, too often large numbers of small-scale farmers have become displaced. While financial institutions like the World Bank, prospective corporations/investors, along with corrupt government officials in the various nations explain their actions as “economic development, job creation, poverty reduction, food security for the people of Africa” etc., in Ms. Mittal’s view people’s land is being stolen.

So, Oakland Institute’s researchers have exposed the false argument that foreign investors and the World Bank are only interested in “socially responsible, benevolent  investment, meant only for carrying out altruistic goals like improving the people’s quality of life”. Ms. Mittal may uncover the true motives of foreign investors in African nations by pointing out that African lands are being sold at $.50-($7-9) per hectare compared to $7-8,000 per hectare in Malaysia/Indonesia, $26,000 per hectare in the United Kingdom, and $14-17,000 per hectare in the midwest United States  for the same quality land.

Oakland Institute Director Anuradha Mittal believes the land is being stolen and not being paid for, that the practice of land grabs shows the absence in nations of rule of law, and that wealthy corporations/investors are taking the opportunity to re-colonize Africa and get away it.

She points out that the World Bank’s recent creation of “ease of doing business rankings” for developing nations has resulted in a “race to the bottom”, where the less environment, labor, tax, and legal constraints a nation has for investors the better the country’s ranking. This race to the bottom trend has negative consequences for men, women and children living in the various developing nations as related to democracy and governing for the health and well-being of citizens. Combine this with the near unanimous participation of corporations and wealthy individuals in the global tax haven/evasion industry and developing nations are essentially being plundered.

The Oakland Institute has earned much credit for bringing these corrupt practices to the awareness of the world’s people, and has because of their actions – combined with the group’s global recognition and solid reputation for anti-corruption efforts and reasearch – successfully prevented or reversed large-scale land transactions which otherwise would have harmed a great number of people.

Please disseminate The Oakland Institute and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ extremely valuable, important work to honorable leaders everywhere on Earth – and to the attention of contacts/friends you know in developing countries, especially nations on the continent of Africa. It will truly make all the difference in the world.
