German Whistleblower Journalist: “Always People Behind Push For War.”

Book11Alphabet German journalist and editor Udo Ulfkotte says he was forced to publish the words of intelligence agents under his own name. His insider story ranks up there with author of “Confession of an Economic Hitman” John Perkins, central character – the late journalist Gary Webb – of the just-released movie “Kill The Messenger”, Edward Snowden and Glen Greenwald, Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning, along with a group of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) whistleblowers starting with John Stockwell (at the time, the highest ranking CIA official to blow the whistle) in the 1970’s.

Combining “Kill The Messenger” and its focus on mainstream media’s intentional efforts to falsely discredit and tarnish Gary Webb’s reputation and silence his reporting/story of CIA drug connections during the Iran-Contra era, increasing numbers of examples of corporate media getting caught publishing false information, and now 25-year veteran German journalist Udo Ulfkotte’s revelations, furthers the deteriorating image of the mainstream/corporate media in the minds of men and women around the world.

It will be interesting to see if Germany’s parliament will become the focus of increasing pressure from the German/European people to hold hearings on what Mr. Ulfkotte wrote in his book. Perhaps much stiffer laws/penalties are forthcoming in Germany and around the world which punish news organizations for intentional publication of articles/information managers, editors, and journalists know is false. Probably so, and that is a media state-of-affairs which is long overdue. It seems almost certain the trend toward more and more insiders of powerful corporate, mainstream media coming forward with new revelations on their experience of propagandist, manipulative efforts will only intensify.

Interesting as well will be testimonies from both the owners of large media corporations, top managers and editors before government hearings in Germany and other countries as this scandal becomes more widely known. It is uncertain whether Udo Ulfkotte has ever read Ben H. Bagdikian’s classic 1983 book “The Media Monopoly”, but one can bet he agrees with what Mr. Bagdikian wrote:

“Each generation has to establish its own priorities and reinvigorate the best principles of the society. This generation is no different. By raising small, minority voices today, this generation, like the Jeffersonians 180 (now 210) years ago, can produce a change that will strengthen American democracy and validate the principle of a truly informed consent as the basis of a free society”.

“The media provide unintegrated fragments of this arrogance without the coherence that brings understanding. The major media speak with clarity and persistence about the sins of the powerless, but they do not speak with clarity and persistence about the sins of private power”.

“…If this generation of Americans exercises its responsibilities to political morality, it will be following the dictates of eighty years ago (now one hundred ten years ago) by that remarkable physician-philosopher William James: ‘The deadliest of enemies of nations….always dwell within their borders. And from these internal enemies civilization is always in need of being saved. The nation blest above all is she in whom the civic genius of the people does the saving day by day, by acts without external picturesqueness; by speaking, writing, voting reasonably; by smiting corruption swiftly; by good temper between parties; by the people knowing true men when they see them, and preferring them as leaders to rabid partisans or empty quacks’.”

Transcript: Udo Ulfkotte interview

“Well, I’ve been a journalist for about 25 years, and I was educated to lie, to betray, and not to tell the truth to the public, but seeing right now within the last few months, how the German and the American media tries to bring war to the people in Europe; to bring war to Russia. This is a point of no return, and I’m going to stand up and say it is not right what I have done in the past. To manipulate people, to make propaganda against Russia; and it’s not right what my colleagues do and have done in the past. Because they are bribed to betray the people not only in Germany but all over Europe”.

“The reason for writing this book was that I’m very fearful of a new war in Europe and I don’t like to have this situation again. Because war is never coming from itself; there is always people behind the push for war. And this is not only politicians, this is journalists too. And I just have written in the book how we have betrayed in the past our readers to push for war, and, because I don’t want this anymore; I’m fed up with this propaganda. We live in a banana republic and not in a democratic country where we have press freedom; where we have human rights”.

“When we… if you see the German media especially, my colleagues, who day by day write against the Russians who are in transatlantic organizations and who are supported by the United States to do so. People like me, I became honorary citizen of the state of Oklahoma in the US, just why? Just because I write pro-American; I wrote pro-American. I was supported by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Why? Because I should be pro-American. I’m fed up with it. I don’t want to do it anymore”.

“And so I’ve just written a book, not to earn money, no, it will cause a lot of trouble for me; just to give the people in this country Germany and Europe and all over the world, just to give them a glimpse of a view of what goes on behind closed doors. There is many examples for that. If we just go back to history, if you go into the year 1988. If you go to your archives you will find that in March 1988 there was in Iraq the Kurdish people had been gassed by poisoned gas. That is known all over the world. But, in July 1988, they sent me to the Iran-Iraq border, it was war between the Iranians and Iraqis, and I was sent there to photograph how the Iranians had been gassed with poison gas – with German poison gas”.

“Mustard gas – made by Germany. And I was there to make photographs how these people had been killed by poison gas from Germany. When I came back to Germany, there was just one small photo in a (Frankfurt) newspaper, and there was one small article – not writing how brutally, how unhuman, how terrible it was to kill decades after the 2nd World War people with German poison gas. So, this was a situation I feel misused for having been there just to give a documentary what has been done, but not being allowed to cry out to the world what we have done behind closed doors. Up until today it’s not well known in the public, that was German public – us, there had been hundreds, thousands of people gassed in this city”.

“Now you ask what have I done for intelligence agencies. So, please see most of the journalists you see in foreign countries, they claim to be journalists, and they might be journalists – European or American journalists. But, many of them, like me in the past, are so-called “nonofficial cover”, that’s what the Americans call that. I have been a “nonofficial cover”. Nonofficial cover means what? You too work for an intelligence agency; you help them if they want you to help them, but they will never, never… When you are locked, when they find out you are not only a journalist but a spy too, they will never say, “this is one of our guys”. They will not know you. That means “unofficial cover”. So, I have helped them in several situations and I feel ashamed for that too”.

“Now, like I feel ashamed that I’ve worked for very recommended newspaper, because I was bribed by billionaires, I was bribed by the Americans, not to report exactly the truth. I just imagined in my car while I was driving to this interview, I just tried to work out in my brain what would have happened if I would have written a pro-Russian article in the Frankfurter (newspaper). Well, I don’t know what would have happened. But we were all educated to write pro-European, pro-American, but “please, not pro-Russian”. So I’m very sorry for that, but this is not what I understand for democracy and for press freedom. I’m very sorry for that”.

“Well, Germany is still kind of a colony of the United States; you see that at many points. Like the majority of Germans don’t want to have nukes in our country, but we still have American nukes. We are still a kind of a colony of the Americans, and being a colony it is very easy to approach young journalists through – what is very important here – is transatlantic organizations. All journalists from really respected and recommended big German newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations…they are all members or guests of the big transatlantic organizations. In those transatlantic organizations, you are approached to be pro-American and there is nobody coming to you and saying “we are the Central Intelligence Agency, would you like to work for us” No. This is not the case how it happens”.

“What they do, those transatlantic organizations, is they invite you, they invite you for seeing the United States. They pay for that, they pay all your expenses and everything. So you’re bribed, you get more and more corrupt, because they make you good contacts. You won’t know that those good contacts are, let’s say, “nonofficial” covers or officially people working for CIA or other American agencies. But you make friends, you think they are friends, and you cooperate with them. They ask you, “well, could you do me this favor, could you do me that favor?”, and so your brain is more and more brainwashed through these guys”.

“Your question was is this only the case for German journalists. No, I think it is especially the case with British journalists, because they have a much closer relationship. It is especially the case with Israelis; of course with French journalists – for a part, not that big as with German or British journalists. It is the case for Australian journalists, for journalists from New Zealand, from Taiwan, from, well, there is many countries. Countries that, the Arab world, Jordan for example. Like Oman, the Sultanate of Oman. There is many countries where this happens, where you find people to claim they are respected journalists but if you look behind them you will find they are puppets on a string of the Central Intelligence Agency”.

“I’m sorry for interrupting you. To give you one example, sometimes the intelligence agencies they come to your office and they want you to write an article. I’ll give you an example, not from other journalists but from me myself. I’ve forgotten the year, I just remember that the German foreign intelligence (BND), a sister organization of the CIA – it was founded by the CIA. So, one day the BND, the German foreign intelligence agency, came to my office in Frankfurt and they wanted me to write an article about Libya and about Colonel Moammar Gaddafi. I had absolutely no secret informations regarding Colonel Moammar Gaddafi and Libya”.

“But they gave me all these secret informations, and they wanted me to write, to sign the article with my name. I did that, but it was not an article that was published in the Frankfurt (newspaper) – that originally came from the German intelligence agency. So, do you really think that this is journalism? Intelligence agencies writing articles? Oh yes, that article I have reprinted it partly in my book. The article was “How Libya and Colonel Gaddafi Secretly Tried to Build a Poison Gas Factory”. It was a story that was printed worldwide two days later”.

“But I had no information on that. It was the intelligence agencies that wanted me to write that article. But this is not the way journalism should work – that intelligence agencies, that they decide what is printed and what is not”.

“If I say no? … I know what would happen if I did not cooperate with intelligence services. Well, I have had 6 times my house was house-searched because I was accused by the public prosecutor, the German public prosecutor, I was accused of leaking state secrets, leaking secrets of state. Six times house-searched. They hoped that I wouldn’t do that ever again”.

“But I think it’s worth that the truth will come out one day. The truth won’t die. And I don’t mind what will happen. I’ve had three heart attacks. I have no children. So, if they want to bring me to court or to prison, so it’s worth for the truth”.

  1. That leading journalists are used by the CIA, or that the monopoly media facilitates the disinformation of the state is not a surprise. But what did surprise me about this interview, considering its potential explosiveness, is that it is somewhat short on concrete content, like the 1988 story of the gassing of Iranians and Kurds, gas that was supplied by the USA along with Germany, no? The use of life style and careerist perks to bring individual journalists into the limelight, to feed them tailored “investigative” dossiers and promote Atlanticism is bang on.

    1. Tony,
Just as a lot of interview programs the 15-20 minutes aren’t enough to get into the concrete content you mention. Without knowing when this man blew the whistle, apparently very recently, perhaps lengthier interviews will be forthcoming. Some of his statements, like “I’m sick of it”, “they can bring me to court or prison, it’s worth it for the truth”, etc. gives the impression the man is sincere, so it’ll be interesting to follow his story. Just saw a two-minute report on RT where the German intelligence agency Mr. Ulfkotte mentioned, BND, says it has evidence the Eastern Ukraine separatists shot down MH17. Interesting announcement so shortly after this journalist goes on international media. The woman PressTV correspondent Serena Shim, she reported from Donetsk and near Kobane, was killed in an auto accident in Turkey after being accused by Turkish intelligence of being a spy. Very suspicious yet facts are unknown as it just occurred. Very sad. So it goes on the truth-seeking road.
      Thanks,

    1. Stuart,
Let’s hope you’re correct and some much-wanted positive developments come along in the process. Maybe those developments will arrive with increasing speed when other journalists like this fellow start speaking the truth.
      Thanks,
      Jerry
