Marianne Williamson announced recently that she will be running for the U.S. House of Representatives in California. She will be running as an independent for the congressional seat currently held by Henry Waxman, a democrat who has been elected to represent that district for many consecutive terms.

Ms. Williamson is perhaps best known for her book “Return To Love” where she shares her experiences with “A Course In Miracles” (ACIM), a three-part spiritual self-help course which originated from New York psychologist Dr. Helen Schucman between the years 1965 and 1973.

Marianne Williamson has written a number of books since “Return To Love”, all focusing to some extent on spiritual, wisdom, and metaphysical aspects of life on Earth. Through the years there have been a number of men and women who have made the transition from clergy/religion/spirituality to government service in the U.S. House of Representatives. It would be safe to say that, whether spoken or unspoken, every man and women who holds political office has some amount of spirituality which motivates their actions.

Ms. Williamson has talked about the animal kingdom where the mothers, be they bears, lionesses, or any species, will fiercely protect their newborn children. It seems that there is a significant movement of women around the world these days who are exhibiting this instinctual response to the conditions on Earth. It is almost like a worldwide rising of the women of the world to protect the next generation(s).

I find this movement to be positive and natural and good for humanity as time marches on. Because it is the way of the natural world, emerging in a way that is in agreement with Mother Earth, and gives people hope that there are those women and men who have decided to take action. One sees women taking a stand on major issues of planetary importance, with a focus on solutions which are based on wisdom and spirituality, while men, who have held the powerful political leadership offices until now, offer little or no metaphysical substance in their discussions.

To understand why there is such a difference between the philosophical views of men and women is not a simple matter. Or, perhaps it is simple to understand, but there is the always-present notion or belief that everything having to do with societal issues such as leadership qualities of men compared to women must find explanation in some kind of academic, scientific manner which gets really deep and complex.

Maybe it is as simple as recognizing that women are the protectors of future generations, and that is how the Creator/God planned it. Without getting into a deep discussion about the reasons for what I sense as the rising of consciousness on Earth with concern for the survival of this generation of young people, let me just say that it is a good thing that women are stepping forward, speaking out, and seeking positions in government(s) where they can make a good difference.

I have included some passages from ACIM in order to give you a better idea where Marianne Williamson “comes from”. I have read a number of her books, found that I agreed with her ideas, and would include some words from one or more of them here, but I have this strange affliction where I end up giving away books to people. Be that as it may, I for one am encouraged and hopeful for the future because Marianne Williamson and other women in the United States and around the world have decided to serve humanity, running for all levels of government/leadership positions.

The people of the world can look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

From “A Course In Miracles”:

You see the flesh or recognize the spirit. There is no compromise of the two.

If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite. There is no choice in vision but this one.

What you decide in this determines all you see, and think is real, and hold as true. On this choice does all your world depend, for here you have established what you are, as flesh or spirit in your own belief.

If you choose flesh, you will never escape the body as your own reality for you have chosen that you want it so. But choose the spirit, and all of heaven bends to touch your eyes, and bless your holy sight, that you may see the world of flesh no more except to heal and comfort and bless.

Salvation does not ask that you behold the spirit and perceive the body not. It merely asks that this should be your choice.

It is your world salvation will undo, and let you see another world your eyes could never find. Be not concerned how this could ever be.

The veil of ignorance is drawn across the evil and the good, and must be passed that both may disappear, so that perception finds no hiding place. How is this done? It is not done at all.

What could there be within the universe that God created that must still be done? Only in arrogance could you conceive that you must make the way to heaven plain. The means are given you by which to see the world that will replace the one you made.

Your will be done! In heaven as on Earth this is forever true. It matters not where you believe you are, or what you think the truth about yourself must really be.

It makes no difference what you look upon, nor what you choose to feel or think or wish. For God himself hath said, “Thy will be done”. And it is done to you accordingly.

One vision, clearly seen, that does not fit the picture as it was perceived before, will change the world for eyes that learn to see, because the concept of the self has changed.

Are you invulnerable? Then the world is harmless in your sight. Do you forgive? Then is the world forgiving, for you have forgiven its trespasses.

And so it looks on you with eyes that see as yours. Are you a body? So is all the world perceived as treacherous, and out to kill.

Are you a spirit, deathless, and without the promise of corruption and the stain of sin upon you? So the world is seen as stable, fully worthy of your trust; a happy place to rest for a while, where nothing need be feared but only loved.

I hope you will find this talk by Marianne Williamson both interesting and inspiring. If you live in her California congressional district, please help her win the election.
