In loving memory of Hermann Scheer (1944-2010).

The accomplishments of Hermann Scheer of Germany are very valuable to humanity. He was a member of the German parliament and was very instrumental in drafting legislation which has resulted in a very dramatic increase in solar power in Germany and many countries on this Earth.

Hermann Scheer died in 2010 at the age of 66.

It was shortly after he exposed a 60 billion dollar breach of contract by Germany’s privately owned nuclear power corporations.

In 1999 he was the major force in establishing feed-in tariffs for the German people that allowed the people to install solar energy equipment and sell excess energy back to German utilities. One can witness in Germany solar panels on houses and commercial buildings everywhere. The feed-in tariff legislation has been hugely successful for the German people and economy.

Many businesses have been established and employ a large number of people thanks to the efforts of Hermann Scheer. He was president of The European Association for Renewable Energy (Eurosolar) and general chairman of The World Council for Renewable Energy.

Scheer recognized that humanity had come to a crossroads and that a replacement was necessary for fossil fuels and nuclear energy. He strongly believed that the worldwide use of solar energy could and must be sought to free humanity from these harmful addictions. He thought that the concentrated power of monopolies in energy industries was a major challenge.

As those who own the corporate energy monopolies are against any change or transformation of energy policies because of their risk to lose money, Scheer strongly emphasized that the people must start energy changes. Those in power will not change the things as they are simply because their profits will decrease in perhaps a large degree.

Scheer helped draft laws in Germany which gave priority to renewable energies which unleashed the renewable energy industry in Germany. Aspects of the legislation guaranteed all Germans access to the electrical grid with a set amount  paid for each kilowatt-hour produced by citizens. This fee had strong guarantees without any caps to guarantee investor protections.

The result was a 100 billion Euros investment in the following ten years in photovoltaic solar power, wind power, hydrogas and other renewables while utility monopolies invested 10 billion. The conventional power structure has strong influence on those inside government where varying types of corruption exist. Utility corporations pay lawmakers after they leave office by hiring them.

What is existent is a form of legalized corruption where governments have become puppets of monopolies in not only the energy industry but all other industries where large sums of money are  found. Teddy Roosevelt achieved the most success in breaking up monopolies when he broke up the giant Standard Oil. Monopoly is dangerous for society and the public interest.

The presidents who followed Teddy Roosevelt have been unable to match the success he had during his time in office. Big oil, the coal industry and nuclear energy industry have exerted tremendous influence on members of congress through the threat of withholding campaign contributions while giving those contributions to political opponents.

Scheer believed that solar energy is the “Energy of the People”. The tremendous benefits of solar and other renewable energies are good for both economic activity and energy independence. “The Solar Economy” would overcome the irresponsible dependency of more than one-third of defense budgets allocated solely for protecting energy production, supply and transport. The wars in Iraq were all about oil. If “The Solar Economy” would have been implemented and given the chance it so deserves years ago perhaps these wars with their heart breaking human suffering would never have started.

Thanks in large part to the great efforts of Hermann Scheer the German people have become more energy independent and simply happier. The people of America need to start asking “Why Not Here?” Ninety percent of the people want the changes to renewable energies like solar and wind to happen because they understand that solar energy and wind energy are FREE!

Now in America, energy change must come from and originate at the local, state and regional levels. It is at these levels where strength and influence must be exercised to overcome the tremendous centralization of power in the federal government. People need to become aware that this is a technology revolution where they are engaged in a fight between an energy dictatorship and energy democracy.

Society needs to become mobilized to demand alternative, green energies which will stimulate jobs and economic growth. Barack Obama cannot act autonomously as there are many developments being blocked by powerful structures in government. There must be loud calls for the removal of barriers and rules which have favored traditional, conventional energy monopolies and the continuance of the status quo.

Clearing the restrictions to development of “The Solar Economy” should be accomplished not only for economic reasons but for ethical reasons as well. “The Solar Economy” will end the negative consequences of continuing to allow dominant fossil fuel and nuclear energy monopolies. The United States of America is not independent. The American people have landed in an unbelievable situation which endangers self-determination and sovereignty and freedom.

Renewable energy, “The Solar Economy” would allow the American people to escape from the dead-end street where energy payments have placed us in dependency. Renewable energies, with their tremendous economic benefits, give us the chance to grow in a healthy sustainable way while also meeting ethical challenges.

In Germany hundreds of cities and counties have decided to go for 100% renewable energy and the trend is increasing in intensity around the world. Germany and other countries around the world are taking action to build solar industries producing a wanted energy movement. Ecologically, economically and democratically beneficial 100% renewable energy goals have motivated the people to the point where the movement is unstoppable.

The hero of the green century is Hermann Scheer.

A fast energy shift is possible, said Hermann Scheer from experience. Please, please research this great man and you will be very impressed with his accomplishments while learning the great potential for humanity. Wherever your soul now resides Hermann Scheer, we thank you profoundly.

Thank you, Hermann Scheer.

  1. Great post. I come from Australia and I can’t believe we don’t use more solar power here! Lots of sunshine and not a particularly huge population, we should be leading the way, but instead we are still digging coal out of the ground and at a fast pace.

    1. Thank you for your honest words. Your words “I can’t believe…” conveys a feeling that many millions of men and women share on Earth regarding solar energy. Can you share any ideas you may have that would result in a strong movement toward the increase of solar energy on Earth? Perhaps men and women around the world will research Hermann Scheer, may he rest in peace, “The Hero of the Green Century”, for starters. The most important benefit of solar energy, in my opinion, is bringing electricity to our brothers and sisters on Earth who do not have it. There has been a tremendous improvement in the quality of the lives of those people who have begun using solar energy to produce electricity for the very first time in their region of the Earth. The increased ability to grow food to eat and obtain water are major advances for these people, and greatly benefits their health and well-being. Solar energy is relatively inexpensive and has tremendous benefits for the human family. Hermann Scheer called solar energy “The Energy of the People” because of its powerful potential to make life better for men, women and children on this Earth.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We hope you are doing well in Australia. Please share your thoughts here at any time.
